Dedicated to Service

Meet Sheldon

Sheldon Birch was born and raised in Yakima, Washington. After attending Brigham Young University, where he met and married his wife, Melinda, they moved to Seattle so Sheldon could pursue his Doctor of Pharmacy. He earned his PharmD from the University of Washington in 2003, and shortly thereafter the Birches returned to Utah to raise their family.

Sheldon began his pharmacy career at Dave’s Drugs in Tooele City, later working for Walgreens and Sav-On while developing his vision for an independent, community-focused pharmacy. That vision became Birch Family Pharmacy, which opened on November 1, 2007. He expanded the business in 2011 with locations in Grantsville and Stansbury Park, and later into Utah and Salt Lake Counties with the opening of Cedar Valley Pharmacy in Eagle Mountain in 2019 and the acquisition of Oquirrh Mountain Pharmacy in Magna in 2025. Today, Sheldon owns and operates five Utah pharmacies and employs more than 120 Utah residents. In a fun family venture, he also co-owns Bee Bowls, an açaí bowl food truck, which he runs in partnership with his daughter.

Sheldon and Melinda are the proud parents of five children and recently welcomed their first grandchild. Outside of work and public service, Sheldon enjoys running and spending time on the water, waterskiing and wakesurfing whenever he can.

Public Service

In addition to his business leadership, Sheldon is deeply committed to public service. He currently serves as Chair of the Erda City Council, where he has helped guide thoughtful and productive discussions on land use and growth in a small community. Through his council role, he also serves on the WFRC Active Transportation Committee. His prior civic service includes the Tooele City Planning Commission and the Tooele County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Sheldon has long been active in professional and community organizations. He has served on the Utah Pharmacists Association Board and is currently a Fellow and Vice President of the American College of Apothecaries. He is also an active member of the National Community Pharmacists Association and the American Pharmacists Association. Locally, Sheldon serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Tooele County School District Education Foundation and sits on the Tooele Technical College Board, where he serves on the Audit and Finance Committee.
